Waist Circumference

Measuring your waist circumference gives you an idea of the fat distribution in your body and also a better understanding of your health risks. Visceral fat, which normally accumulates in the abdominal area and around organs, is considered more dangerous than normal body fat. A big waist increases the risk of type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, hypertension and cardiovascular disease especially in those who already have a high BMI score.

How to measure Waist Circumference:

  1. Remove bulky attire and loosen belt
  2. Place tape mid-way between your last rib cage and the top of your hip bone
  3. Relax your abdomen and breathe out
  4. Record the measurement

Desirable Range:

< 90cm (35.5 inches) < 80cm (31.5 inches)

Should your waist circumference exceed the desirable range, refer to our links below to find out what can you do to improve your health and decrease the chances of health risks.
